Temperament
Beagles are social, great with children and love company. Left alone they may howl and bark. They can be stubborn; food rewards work very well in training.
Daily exercise
1–1.5 hours of walks and scent games a day. Because of the tracking instinct, keep on lead in open areas.
Feeding
Very food-driven and prone to obesity; weigh food and count treats in daily calories.
Example: a neutered adult Beagle at an ideal weight of 11 kg (24 lb) needs roughly 680 kcal a day (RER × 1.6). Work out your own pet's needs with the calorie calculator and check ideal weight with the ideal weight calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Can a Beagle live in an apartment?
Yes, with long daily walks and play. Because they may bark or howl when alone, train them to be left gradually.
Why do Beagles bark so much?
As pack hounds they dislike being alone and communicate with their voice. Enough exercise and alone-time training help.
How much should a Beagle weigh?
Adult Beagles usually weigh 9–14 kg (20–30 lb). Ribs should be easy to feel.
