Temperament
Chihuahuas are alert, bold and often bond strongly with one person. They can be wary of strangers, so early socialisation matters. Fragile, so play with small children must be gentle.
Daily exercise
20–30 minutes of short walks and indoor play a day. They feel the cold; a coat may be needed in winter.
Feeding
Puppies are very prone to low blood sugar; don't skip meals. In adults, even a few hundred grams is a big weight change.
Example: a neutered adult Chihuahua at an ideal weight of 2.5 kg (6 lb) needs roughly 220 kcal a day (RER × 1.6). Work out your own pet's needs with the calorie calculator and check ideal weight with the ideal weight calculator.
Common health problems

Care tips
